Destination: The Free Copts State
Another gem in cyberspace is the Free Copts State. It's a forum where the Coptic issue, among other very interesting issues is discussed by Egyptians...Christians and Muslims.
My favorite place there is Father Abdel Massih Bassit Abulkheir's forum. Fr AbdelMassih is an apologetic who has a wonderful way of explaining so many misconceptions in the Christian faith.
The forum is predominantly in Arabic, but there is an English forum which is really picking up speed.
I have been having an absolute ball over there, sharing ideas and participating in lively discussions.
Worth a visit especially if you read and write Arabic.

I have been and continue to be VERY upset about a trend that's taken hold of the way we, Copts, talk about our Egyptian heritage, ancestry and of simply being Egyptians. The massive unrelenting and persistent Muslim-influenced notion that we need, somehow, to re-affirm our “Egyptianity”, and the need to continuously remind everyone, including ourselves, that we are no less Egyptians than the Muslim Egyptians that sub-consciously creeps into our thinking is a sinister FRAUD. I hope that explains my “have beens” comment as my protest that’s intended to shake our thinking into a “hey, Egypt is OURS not anyone elses’, and it should be the land of the Free Copts. As it stands now, I suspect that our Muslim brothers prefer a Copts-Free state instead
PS I resent the notion of being tempted to think with a victim’s mentality, it’s time has passed, and our time, the Migrants Copts’ time has arrived and it is up to us to steer any argument in the right way… dare I say OUR WAY ???

I'm still here mate :) just haven't been very creative lately, lol!! Its not the forum keeping me busy, believe me!!! its this end of financial year panic everyone goes into...managers are crying: ALL REPORTS ARE URGENT AND MUST BE CLOSED OUT BY END OF MONTH!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I agree with what you are saying about the victim mentality and reaffirming our identity. Thats what we have been talking about in the English forum...you really should join us there Red because I think you have the right attitude and mentality.
We've been talking about ways the ex pat Copts can help raise awareness and be effective. Especially those of us who are fluent in both languages and have lived in Egypt and have a good understanding of the issues.
You know that think tank you suggested when the Alexandria attacks took place? well it's really taking shape over there...and I'm hopeful it's going to be a fruitful experience.

أكره المؤتمرات.
لا أحبها.
ولدي أسباب أعتقد أنها مقنعة لموقفي هذا.
فكثيرة هي المؤتمرات التي تابعتها كصحافية.
وكثيرة هي النقاشات التي تدور بين جوانبها.
وقليلة هي النتائج التي تتمخض عنها.
قليلة.
بل شحيحة.
كأن من يحضرون تلك المؤتمرات اختاروا الحضور في فسحة من زمن خارج نطاق واقعنا.
يرتدون بذلات أنيقة.
يتعشون في مطاعم فاخرة.
ثم يعودون إلى أسرتهم المريحة في فنادق الدرجة الأولى أو الثانية، كلٌ ومكانته.
ويناقشون.
كلٌ يلقي كلمته.
ويناقشون.
ثم يتفقون.
يتفقون على أمور هم متفقون عليها أساساً.
وينفض الجمع.
وكأنك يا أبو زيد ما غزيت!
هل تلوموني بعد ذلك على كرهي للمؤتمرات؟
رغم ذلك، تمنيت على مؤتمر "الديمقراطية في الشرق الأوسط، وحماية وجود المسيحيين والأقليات الأخرى في المستقبل" أن يكون مختلفاً.
أن يكون مغايراً.
وأن لا ينفض الجمع تاركاً غباراً من بعـده، كزوبعة في فنجان.
ما الذي نريده من مؤتمر يتخذ من الديمقراطية وحقوق الأقليات في الشرق الأوسط هدفاً له؟
لا أكثر من أن يتحول إلى أداه لدعم الوحدة الوطنية، لا إلى ترسيخ الإثنية الطائفية أو العرقية.
دعوني أشرح لكم وجهة نظري وسبب مطالبتي تلك.
الدولة العربية فشلت في الإيفاء بواجباتها تجاه مواطنيها.
فشلت فشلاً ذريعاً.
فشلت في تحقيق الحد الأدنى من النهضة التي وعدتنا بها بعد الاستقلال أو الثورة.
فشلت في تحقيق الحد الأدنى من التقدم الاقتصادي الذي يحفظ لمواطنيها حياة كريمة.
وفشلت في حماية الحد الأدنى من حقوق مواطنيها، من احترام إنسانية مواطنيها، والتعامل معهم على قدم المساواة.
ولأنها فشلت، لم تجد بدأ من التحول إلى ما أسميه " لعبة البقاء".
لعبة هدفها الأول والأخير إبقاء الحاكم وبطانته في السلطة.
لا أكثر ولا أقل.
ولعبة كان من أهم أسسها اللعب على عدة جبهات.
اللعب على المسألة الدينية.
كم حاكم رأيناه يزايد على الدين، و هو يلعب لعبة الحامي: حامي حمي الدين. يهاجم الإسلاميين لأنهم يقحمون الدين في كل صغيرة وكبيرة، لكنه يستخدمه هو نفسه للتبرير لشرعيته، أو لإقناع مواطنيه أنه المدافع الأمين عن "دين الأمة".
وكلاهما، الحاكم والأحزاب الدينية، يتلاعبان بالدين ككرة في ملعب هما الفريقان الأساسيان فيه.
اللعب على المسألة الطائفية.
هنا تأخذ السلطة منهجاً مغايراً. نجدها هنا تلعب لعبة المدافع: المدافع عن الأقليات في الدولة. تهمس في أذن أقلياتها، دينية كانت أو عرقية، بأنها هي الضامن الأول والأخير لحقوقها، وأن حماية وجودها من وجودها هي، وأن خروجها من الحكم لن يؤذن إلا ببدء الطوفان.
" أنا أو الطوفان من بعدي". هكذا تقول.
ثم اللعب على واقع الفساد.
الفساد أساس لعبة الحكم لدينا. لأن الفساد في الواقع هو الذي يؤمن لبقاء الحاكم وبطانته في السلطة. يلعب النظام هنا لعبة الراعي للمصالح.
شبكة من العلاقات والمصالح تجمع مجموعة من النخبة في السياسة والاقتصاد والدين والمجتمع، من القبيلة أو العشيرة، وتدفعهم دفعاً إلى التحالف معاً، والهدف واحد: الإبقاء على النظام القائم وإدامته.
في كل هذا يتحول الوطن إلى كعكة شهية يتم اقتسامها بين مجموعة لا تؤمن بمفهوم الوطن، و لا تعرف معنى حب الوطن.
وفي كل هذا يجد المواطن نفسه أمام وضع يُحوله مع الوقت إلى شيء لا قيمة له في نظر السلطة الحاكمة.
يموت أو لا يموت، لا يهم.
وفي كل هذا يلتفت المواطن حوله ولا يجد أمامه دولة يحترمها، أو سلطة قادرة على حمايته.
يلتفت حوله ليجد مجتمعاً أصبح مفتتاً، منقسماً على نفسه.
يلتفت حوله ولا يجد أمامه سوى هويته الدينية أو العرقية، لتصبح هي الملاذ ولتصبح هي الحامي.
أكره أن أكون كالغراب الناعق في سرب يغني.
لكني أتمنى عليكم أن تتذكروا أننا بمطالبتنا بالديمقراطية والدفاع عن حقوق الأقليات إنما ندافع عن حقوق المواطنة.
المواطنة.
لسنا هنا لنقول نحن مسلمون أو مسيحيون. أكراد أو عرب.
لسنا هنا كي نؤكد أننا تحولنا بالفعل إلى تلك الكرة التي يتلاعب بها النظام ضد الأحزاب الدينية.
مواطنون نحن.
وشعارنا المواطنة للجميع.
مواطنة تجعلني أقول أنا مصرية، أنا سورية، أنا يمنية.
مصرية، لا مسلمة أو مسيحية.
سورية، لا علوية أو سنية.
يمنية، لا شمالية أو جنوبية.
مواطنة تجعلني أقول أنا إنسانة.
لست أمراة أو رجل أمام القانون.
بل إنسانة.
مواطنة تجعلني أقول "ديني هو شأني الخاص. لكن هويتي هي الوطن".
لسنا هنا كي نؤكد على هوياتنا الدينية أو العرقية.
في الواقع ليست هناك حاجة للتأكيد على ذلك.
فهي موجودة.
كانت دائماً وأبداً موجودة.
ما نحتاجه هو نظام يعترف بوجود هذه الهويات، ويحترمها.
لا يستخف بها.
ولا يصر على أنها لا تعاني من أي تمييز.
فالتمييز موجود.
نشرات الأخبار أصبحت تذكرنا بهذا التمييز بين الفينة والأخرى.
ما نحتاجه هو نظام يكف عن لعبة البقاء، لأنها لن تؤدي به وبنا إلا إلى الهاوية.
نظام يكف عن حب نفسه ويبدأ في حب الوطن.
نظام يكف عن النظر إلى كعكته، ويبدأ في النظر إلى المواطن لديه.
ينظر إليه ويدرك أنه أمام إنسان،
له حقوق،
يجب احترامها.
وأن بقاءه في الواقع مرهون برضا ذلك الإنسان.
ما نحتاجه هو صرخة منا، تخرج من أنفسنا ونحن نعنيها، نقول معها: "لسنا كرة في ملعب النظام. بل مواطنون".

It's great to know that there are still lots of people all over the globe who are not shy to talk about their devotion to Christian faith and be an advocate of the words of God for fear of being branded as a dogmatic or out of fashion people.
I hope you'll post regularly since I've already bookmark your blog site. thank you and may God bless you.
